Chris Baron (operations director) and Chris Cooke (commercial director) of Sheerline Bespoke share their views on the product trends for 2026.
The home improvement market continues to be shaped by homeowners demanding more from their spaces; more light, better thermal performance, longer product lifespans and stronger visual appeal.
It means installers are increasingly being asked to deliver extensions and glazing solutions that look architectural, perform efficiently and stand the test of time. From our perspective at Sheerline Bespoke, several clear product trends are emerging that will influence specification decisions and customer expectations over the next few years.
Flat roofs
Flat roofs have undergone a quiet revolution in recent years. Older felt-based coverings have been replaced by modern EPDM membranes and GRP that deliver far superior lifespan and performance. These roofs offer cleaner, contemporary lines and greater versatility, whether left as a simple flat roof or paired with a roof lantern or flat rooflight.
From a thermal standpoint, a properly insulated flat roof can outperform more complex pitched alternatives, thanks to reduced surface area and more effective installation. As a result, flat roofs are becoming the foundation of choice for modern extensions.
Roof lanterns and flat rooflights
Roof lanterns and flat rooflights remain a popular way of introducing natural light into spaces, but their role has become more refined. Installers are increasingly specifying lanterns or flat rooflights as part of a broader architectural design rather than as a decorative afterthought.
Slimmer sightlines, stronger aluminium frames and improved glazing performance mean lanterns now enhance both form and function. A well-designed lantern and flat rooflights achieves this balance for homeowners.
Glazed extensions
The modern glazed extension has evolved rapidly, with aluminium now firmly leading the way. Homeowners continue to move away from traditional PVCU conservatories and opting for full-height glazed aluminium framed extensions that feel more like a natural continuation of the home.
Aluminium offers far greater structural integrity and longevity, especially when dealing with large spans and pitched roof angles facing the sun at its most intense point, maintaining its appearance for decades.
Combined with advances in solar control glazing, including darker grey, high-performance glass for example, today’s extensions deliver on comfort and aesthetics.
Colour trends
Colour continues to play a critical role in defining the look of glazing products, and aluminium powder coating has transformed what’s possible. While white, grey and black remain the core choices, the balance is shifting. Anthracite grey has dominated for years, but black has surged in popularity recently.
Looking ahead, we expect softer greys, such as Agate grey, to gain momentum, offering a more subtle, refined alternative that complements both contemporary and traditional architecture.
Adding value
The market is moving decisively towards products that combine strong design credentials with genuine performance benefits. For installers, understanding these shifts is key to adding value and futureproofing their offering.
At Sheerline Bespoke, we see 2026 as an opportunity to deliver smarter, more architectural glazing solutions, such as our new S3 Architectural Glazed Roof, that meet rising expectations and help installers stand out in an increasingly design-led sector.
