Planiclear, from Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland, now achieves 7.22kgCO2e/m2 for 4mm glass produced at the company’s Eggborough plant near Goole – a significant step forward in lower-carbon flat glass production.
The new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) reflects Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland’s regular day-to-day production. It is not based on a trial or short-term campaign. Planiclear is manufactured and delivered this way as standard, every day, the company said. The new declaration shows a reduction of more than 34% compared with the previous EPD.
This progress is driven by Saint-Gobain Glass UK’s decarbonisation roadmap and its Glass Forever circular economy approach to flat glass recycling. Together, the company focuses on three key areas: increasing circularity; reducing reliance on virgin raw materials; and improving renewable energy use and process efficiency.
Producing around 13 miles of flat glass daily, the Eggborough site is embedding lower-carbon manufacturing at scale. By reducing the footprint of its core product, Saint-Gobain Glass is making lower carbon specification simpler for the construction and retrofit markets, the company said.
“The EPD is third-party verified and positions Planiclear among the lowest embodied carbon standard float glass products manufactured in the UK,” Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland said.
