The £100 million Drumgeith Community Campus in Dundee opened its doors in August, welcoming pupils and the wider community to a state-of-the-art facility designed by Holmes Miller and delivered by Robertson Group in partnership with Dundee City Council.
At the heart of the development is the new Greenfield Academy, Dundee’s first secondary school built to rigorous Passive House standards, setting a new benchmark for energy efficiency and sustainable learning environments.
The campus showcases Metal Technology’s high-performance façades, with its advanced Passive House-certified glazing products – System 17 Hi+ Curtain Walling, System 5-35D Hi+ Door and System 5-45 Hi+ Tilt and Turn Window – installed by Avtek. These systems ensure exceptional thermal performance, airtightness, and comfort, supporting the project’s low-energy design aspirations.
Greenfield Academy provides capacity for around 1,600 pupils, while the wider campus serves as a vibrant community hub. Facilities include a music and drama centre, café, and library – all accessible to the public – alongside extensive sports amenities such as floodlit all-weather pitches, a fitness suite, dance studio, gym, and games halls, encouraging year-round community engagement.
As Dundee’s largest ever investment in education, sport, and community provision, Drumgeith Community Campus represents a flagship project that delivers both outstanding educational opportunities and lasting social value.
Healthier and greener environments
Metal Technology’s Passive House-certified systems are making a significant impact across education and student accommodation projects throughout the UK and Ireland, offering exceptional thermal insulation and airtightness. The company’s Passive House solutions played a key role in the design and delivery of the world’s largest Passive House education project: St Columba’s RC High School and Woodmill High School in Fife, Scotland.
Metal Technology continues to lead the way in Passive House education, with its Passive House products featured across a series of recently completed facilities, including Currie Community High School in Edinburgh, Monifieth Learning Campus in Angus, and Perth High School.
Building on this momentum, the company has also secured a pipeline of landmark Passive House projects worth over £11 million in installation value. These include Caledonia High School in Rosyth, Faifley Community Campus in Clydebank, Paisley Grammar School Community Campus, Wester Hailes High School in Edinburgh, and Weavers’ Hall, Northern Ireland’s first Passive House student accommodation, being delivered by Graham Building for Queen’s University Belfast.
Blairgowrie recreation centre
Extending beyond the education sector, Metal Technology’s Passive House aluminium glazing systems were installed in the new, state-of-the-art £36 million ‘Live Active Blairgowrie’, Scotland’s first Passive House-certified leisure facility. The centre features a 25m swimming pool, a four-court sports hall, and a fitness suite, setting new standards in sustainable leisure design.
A range of Metal Technology’s high-performance aluminium glazing products were installed by Linn-Tech Scotland for BAM Construction and Hub East Central Scotland. The team provided technical support to Holmes Miller Architects in the specification and delivery of its Passive House System 5-45 Hi+ Tilt and Turn Window and Passive House System 17 Hi+ Curtain Walling.
Additional products installed include System 5-20D Hi+ Doors, System 10-35 Hi+ Doors, System 4-35 Hi+ Casement Window and System 23 Louvre, performing seamlessly together to deliver the desired aesthetic and performance standards.
This high-quality, low energy leisure facility is now open for the local community to enjoy, delivering exceptional energy efficiency, drastically reducing carbon emissions, and ensuring a comfortable indoor environment for all.
